With the Fall gaming season calendar filling up, with a particularly crazy October, Capcom have announced the new entry in the Onimusha franchise, Way of the Sword will now be releasing three weeks earlier.
The Japanese developer which is riding high this generation with titles including the exceptional Resident Evil: Requiem and Pragmata, have confirmed that Onimusha will now release on September 4, 2026, previously it was scheduled for September 5.
Though Onimusha has more space to breathe away from October’s chaos, the game will now release only a day after Blood of Dawnwalker, which releases September 3, 2026. Whilst not a direct competitor in terms of setting, there are parallels in gameplay and tone.
Not a week ago, Capcom held their June Capcom Spotlight broadcast which included a new trailer for Way of the Sword. It’s looking a highly promising entry, that is launching for XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC. Another recent gameplay trailer which featured at the June Nintendo Direct showcased some exciting boss battles, and the Issen system. Switch 2 players can even use Joy-Con motion controls to swipe their sword.
This is the first full new Onimusha game in 20 years and the first since Dawn of Dreams which released on PlayStation 2 in 2006. The series has a big following which is generating big interest in the new entry, now there’s even less time to wait.
