Mario Kart World Adds New Knockout Tour Routes, Photo Mode Stickers and More

mario kart world 1.7.0 update

Switch 2’s best seller, Mario Kart World continues to release a steady stream of updates to the game. Whilst there hasn’t been any fundamental changes to the game and its pretty, yet scarce, open world, Nintendo have delivered gameplay and system tweaks to improve the title including the ability to customise which items appear in your races.

One of the best things about Mario Kart World is its Knockout Tour, a series of circuits pieced together for players to race against one another, with the lowest placed racers being eliminated. It’s very fun, particularly when played via Nintendo Switch Online.

New Knockout Tour Routes

In the new 1.7.0 update, two new Knockout Tour routes have been added, titled Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally. Drill Rally takes place in the north of the map, connecting Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle. Whereas Boomerang Rally, in the southern region of the map will have you racing from Salty Salty Speedway, round the back of Peach’s Castle and on to Whistlestop Summit.

Photo Mode Stickers

Mario Kart World’s photo mode can be great fun, you’ll likely have seen many fun snaps taken by players over the last year. To add a little more quirk to them, Nintendo have also added the ability to place stickers on your images in the 1.7.0 update. You can even use touch controls on the Switch 2 screen to place the stickers. Some of them look like this (how cute are the Cow stickers!):

Update 1.7.0 Gameplay Updates

Alongside the new Knockout Tour routes and Photo Mode stickers, several gameplay changes have been made. This includes raising acceleration performance for characters and vehicles with lower levels of acceleration, with gliding speed improved for racers with higher speed. You can also now hop right after being hit by Kamek’s magic or a Bullet Bill. The full list of gameplay updates are as follows:

  • Raised the acceleration performance of characters and vehicles that had low acceleration.
  • Raised the gliding speed of characters that had high speed and that of some other characters and vehicles.
  • Made it so the player can hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill.
  • Adjusted conditions where the player can do a Jump Boost by shaking the controller when racing on top of the water.
  • Adjusted behavior after landing on rivals and made it so the dash time after landing is longer.
  • Made it so that the player can stop a slipstream when braking before the slipstream starts.
  • Adjusted rate at which players can acquire items from item boxes in races and in Knockout Tour.
  • Made it so that players can see the Super Horn a rival is holding.
  • Added a ramp to the race that heads from Airship Fortress to Bowser’s Castle.
  • Added support for Thai language
