Grounded 2 Gets “Into The Abyss” Update Alongside PS5 Launch In August

At Summer Game Fest 2026, we got more news about Obsidian Entertainment’s co-op survival game Grounded 2, revealing that the ‘Into The Abyss’ update and the PlayStation 5 launch are coming later this Summer.

Grounded 2 launches on PS5 on August 11th, with the ‘Into the Abyss’ update arriving on all platforms the same day. Details of the upcoming update were shared on the official Obsidian Entertainment website. We do not know yet if the PlayStation version will be crossplay compatible with PC and XBOX at the time of reporting.

The ‘Into the Abyss’ update opens up the pond of Brookhollow Park, offering areas to explore above and below the water’s surface. As one of the largest additions to the game, fans can look forward to “new locations to discover, new progression paths to pursue, and new dangers waiting”.

The pond features regions called the Mountains and the Bayou, as well as the depths below the pond’s surface, each with its own challenges and surprises to discover. Players will craft and use diving suits to explore deeper into the depths of the pond, with familiar faces from the first Grounded, like the Koi fish and diving bell spider, returning alongside new surprises.

Rideable insects called Buggies are a key feature of Grounded 2, and a new amphibious Buggy called the ‘Toe-Biter’ to help players explore on land and in water joins the roster when the update lands. From shoreline to underwater caves, there are plenty of places to explore, and the developers are “excited for players to see what the team has been building.”

The ‘Into the Abyss’ update for Groundeed 2 launches on August 11th, the same day the game launches on PlayStation 5. Grounded 2 is available now on PC, XBOX Series X/S, and XBOX Game Pass.
