Co-op Retro Anime Adventure Orbitals Gets A Release Date

At the Nintendo Direct for June 2026, we finally got the release date for Orbitals, the co-op sci-fi adventure developed by Tokyo-based indie studio Shapefarm and published by Kepler Interactive. Orbitals lands exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3rd, 2026.

In Orbitals, you and a friend play as Maki and Omura, two friends and explorers looking for a way to save their crumbling space station home that is now trapped within a supernatural cosmic storm. The duo must venture out beyond the storm and brave the perils of space to find help.

First revealed at The Game Awards last year, Orbitals will have players using a variety of sci-fi tools to help each other overcome obstacles and solve puzzles. Between piloting their ship and investigating abandoned stations, Maki and Omura can relax by playing an arcade-style mini-game or jamming out on the drums and keyboard.

Players can pre-order the game from today, with the choice of either a standard edition or a deluxe edition with additional, exclusive DLC bonuses.

The Orbitals deluxe edition includes:

Orbitals base game.
A digital artbook* packed with original retro anime-inspired concept art and illustrations.
The Orbitals original digital soundtrack.*
Two exclusive character costumes (one for Maki and one for Omura).
Two unique ship skins to customize your journey beyond the Storm Wall.

*Accessed via the base game’s main menu.

While technically exclusive to the Switch 2, there are several ways that Orbitals can be played. Using a Nintendo Switch 2, you will be able to team up with two pairs of Joy-Con controllers on a Nintendo Switch 2 for split-screen local co-op, or use the GameShare feature to share Orbitals with a partner on a Nintendo Switch 2 or a Nintendo Switch!

Shapefarm’s Game Director, Jakob, was inspired by his time working on co-op titles like A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction to create a “fun and engaging cooperative experience.”

Orbitals launches exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3rd, 2026.
