Saw: Genesis Reveal Trailer Asks, “Do You Want to Play A Game?”

Summer Game Fest saw the reveal of Saw: Genesis by recent horror darling Bloober Team, the studio behind the fantastic Silent Hill 2 remake. While the idea of a new video game based on the popular and grisly film series gets horror fans excited, the reveal has raised its fair share of questions and raised eyebrows.

Saw: Genesis sets out to show just that, the genesis of the entire series as we go back into time to just after World War 1 where we meet The Judge, our early 20th century precursor to Jigsaw, and his jolly hall of bloody horrors. This game, however, is an asymmetric multiplayer game in the vein of Dead By Daylight. You play as either 1 of 3 “accused” tasked with working as a team to escape The Judge’s traps, or the man with the plan himself, but there’s a twist. The Judge himself is frail and isn’t a physical threat himself. You must use your traps and various perks to, “control the match from the shadows” and score a win over those The Judge has deemed guilty.

Judge or accused? You can play either in this upcoming entry in the Saw universe.

Saw: Genesis already has a page up on Steam where you can Wishlist. The game has also announced a Closed Alpha you can sign up for. Are you excited to be able to trap your friends and thwart their plans in a Saw multiplayer game? Or are you disappointed it’s not single player? Are you willing to trust Bloober Team after their recent success and give it a try regardless? Let us know in the comments below!

I moved from the US to Prague back in 2010. Since then I've been the main English teacher and coordinator at a few schools, got myself a family, wrote a couple of children's books with my wife, experienced a good amount of homelessness (best diet ever), and through everything, I've leaned on my love and passion for gaming. I've gone from impressing my dad on the Atari to my students calling me a middle aged gamer and now I get to share my passion with my kids. Best artform ever.
