If you were living under a rock last year, you probably didn’t hear about 11 Bit Studios sci-fi survival game The Alters. A lone survivor, Jan Dolski, must escape a hostile planet full of strange anomalies and a deadly sun rises. Thankfully, you are not truly alone. With the help of some nifty sci-fi gadgetry, Jan creates clones of himself to handle menial tasks. Need to fix some machinery? Just dive back into your past and make some different choices, easy, right?
With the reveal of Last Variable, it seems not all the Jans wanted such an easy life.
The trailer reveals an old Jan Scientist who is on a 13-year rotation, hiding underground, trying to figure out what “it” is trying to tell us. It’s pretty cryptic, but thankfully, we will get some answers when Last Variable releases on July 13th on PC and console.
In the next story expansion, Jan Scientist can’t turn down the chance of exploring the wondrous Oasis. Not only will you get the chance to hang with some new alters, like Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, and Physicist, but you will also get to explore a new Biome, The Oasis.

Explore new regions and terraform them. Each transformation will change the landscape, unlocking new resources, unfortunately you will also awaken the planet itself. Radiation storms and intense earthquakes will shake the very foundations of your base.

Build underground, in different soil types, build new components and new modules like the Cryosleep Chamber, as you will need to sleep during the terraforming. Each cooldown offers a limited time to explore the changed environment before the next terraform begins.
While you slumber in the safety of your Cryopod, what happens to those who don’t have that luxury? Those working in field labs without protection? What does prolonged radiation exposure do to an already fragile mind? Only time will tell.
