Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian director Fumito Ueda made a surprise appearance at Summer Game Fest today to fully reveal gen ATLAS, which was formally teased as ‘Project: Robot’.
Fumito Ueda founded his studio genDESIGN during the development of The Last Guardian, with the studio eventually going on to take over development on the project until its completion in December 2016. During The Game Awards 2024, the team revealed Project: Robot, its next title being developed for Epic Games Publishing.
Today, Ueda appeared at Summer Game Fest alongside the debut gameplay trailer for gen ATLAS, which showcases a sci-fi setting and a player character piloting a giant mech. The gameplay also seems to depict shooting mechanics, a first for the studio, as well as a more detailed, realistic art direction compared to the painterly keyframe animation in Ueda’s past projects. It has also been confirmed to be an open-world title.

Given that this is an Epic Games Publishing release, it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. A release date was not announced.
gen ATLAS is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
