New Personalization Options, Controller Visibility, and More Available to Xbox Insiders

XBOX have begun rolling out new Xbox console updates to select Alpha Skip-Ahead Xbox Insiders. These updates include expanded personalization tools as well as improved controller visibility in the Xbox Accessories app, easier access to update notes, and a new on-console service status indicator.

Even More Ways to Personalize Your Console

The update expands Xbox’s colour customization options in two main ways. Players can now manually enter a specific hex colour code for precise colour selection, or use a new “match my gamerpic” option that will pull a colour directly from their avatar. A preview feature will also let users visualize their chosen colour across the console display before applying it.

See Controllers On Screen

The Xbox Accessories app now displays an image of the specific type of controller currently connected,  including most Xbox Wireless Controllers with a Share button as well as the Xbox Elite Series 2. The visual is intended to make it easier to confirm the desired / correct controller is selected when remapping buttons or adjusting settings.

Quicker Access to Update Release Notes

After a console update, players can now access release notes directly from the Home screen’s top navigation. Microsoft have also expanded the release notes themselves to include more details on new features, changes, and major bug fixes. Xbox Insiders will be able to find direct links to release notes specific to their preview ring through the Xbox Insider Hub app.

Xbox Service Status, Now Direct on Console

When a confirmed Xbox service issue has been detected, a new indicator will appear in the upper-right corner of the screen. Players can then navigate directly to a service status page showing what services are affected, estimated resolution times, etc. without needing to check external sites or social media.

These features are currently only available to Alpha Skip-Ahead Xbox Insiders, with plans to expand to more Insider tiers before a larger rollout to all players. Microsoft has also noted that player feedback gathered through the recently-launched Xbox Player Voice platform has contributed to the release of these updates.

How to Join Xbox Insider Program

Players interested in joining the Xbox Insider Program can download the Xbox Insider Hub on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows PC.

In other news, PlayStation have confirmed the release date and prices of their new PC monitor and fight stick.
