Last year was a stellar year for horror games. Cronos the New Dawn, Silent Hill f and so many more big budget titles. But one of the years best horror games went largely under the radar, and it was absolutely terrific – Look Outside.
Against some very stiff competition, Look Outside was in the running our Horror Game of the Year here at Gamer Social Club and was pipped to the post by Cronos. Personally, I adored my time with the game, though haven’t had the chance to play the 2.0 release yet which features even more incredible characters and encounters.
I’ve been feeling that the itch needs scratching since my time with the unique horror thriller. My prayers have been answered with Tenebris Somnia (roughly translated from Latin to dark dreams / nightmares) which just reappeared at the gamescom LATAM May 2026 showcase. Although not a new trailer at the showcase, this is a horror that should be on your radar.
Tenebris Somnia uniquely blends together old school 2D point and click style adventures, with survival horror elements. But the most exciting is that the games cutscenes are high-quality FMV sequences. Having just checked out the demo on Xbox Series X, they are some incredibly creepy stuff. The game is being by an award-winning film crew from Argentina and from what I’ve seen, their credentials are clear.
In the game we play as Julia, who returns to her ex-boyfriends department and there’s some incredibly weird stuff going on. He is missing, there’s blood all over the bathroom and most items are destroyed.
In the brief demo I witnessed some horrific red headed women chasing me, who I beat down with a wrench. Then when in a lift, confronted by a mysterious lady I was made to light coloured candles which enabled access to different levels of the apartment block. It’s this setting, the game’s mystery and the visual style that are giving me the Look Outside fix that I’ve long needed.
I can’t wait to find out what’s happening in Julia’s ex boyfriend’s apartment block and see all the very promising FMV sequences.
Tenebris Somnia is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S later this year. A demo is now available on Steam and Xbox (including Play Anywhere support).
