Continuing to offer players more of their wonderful back catalogue of classic games, Nintendo has been regularly been adding new titles for Nintendo Switch Online members for years. Recently, the Japanese giant has been busy adding OG VR console, the Virtual Boy for Switch and Switch 2 players alongside over half of its game library already. Since the Switch 2’s launch, they have also released a wealth of GameCube games including Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and most recently Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Despite adding games for GameCube and Virtual Boy, they haven’t stopped adding games for older hardware including the SNES and Nintendo 64. They have now announced the latest title which will join the N64 classics library, and its one people have been asking for a long time for, Donkey Kong 64. DK64 joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on June 4, 2026:
Originally released in 1999 and developed by UK giant, Rare, DK64 is a divisive game from Nintendo’s golden era of 3D platformers which includes Banjo-Kazooie and the generational Super Mario 64. The game originally used the N64’s Expansion Pack device which added extra power to the console to run the game. As confirmed by Nintendo’s post on X (formerly Twitter), the Switch Online release will indeed include the legendary DK Rap.
Donkey Kong 64, whilst loved by many, certainly isn’t regarded as Kong’s greatest outing. Switch 2’s launch window title, Donkey Kong Bananza was nominated for many Game of the Year awards last year, as well as receiving a rare GSC 10/10.
