Just earlier this morning, we brought you the news that there will be a Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine 10th anniversary livestream this Thursday. Many had already speculated that the livestream would include an announcement of a much-rumoured new DLC for one of the best RPGs ever made.
It appears that after CD Projekt RED had almost accidentally leaked their own news via their RED Launcher, they have officially announced the new Witcher 3 expansion – titled Songs of the Past – via X (formerly Twitter):
Medallion's humming… that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past! ??

This brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more. It’s being co-developed with @Fools_Theory… pic.twitter.com/rrcPXppgdc
Little is mentioned about the expansion in the social media post, other than that it will feature Geralt and arrives in 2027. CD Projekt RED have said more information is coming later this summer, though I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a sneak peak during tomorrow’s livestream.
The new expansion is being co-developed by another Polish studio, Fool’s Theory who have previously worked on character-driven RPG, The Thaumaturge which recently joined both Xbox Game Pass in April and PlayStation Plus this month.
Songs of the Past will only launch on XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Thus, Witcher 3 players who have continued to play the game on XBOX One, PlayStation 4 and yes, Nintendo sWitch(er), will need to upgrade to new hardware to play the expansion. There has been no confirmation of The Witcher 3 coming to Switch 2 till now.
