When Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku first showed off Project Century, fans were instantly drawn to the violent nature shown during gameplay. The game was later revealed to be titled Stranger Than Heaven, the next project that RGG was facedown in full development on.
The title was further shown off at Summer Games Fest 2025, as well as the Xbox Partner Preview Event at the end of March, with a Xbox Presents highlighting the game to come in May. This Xbox Presents is here to unravel the details surrounding the game, and everything announced here will be covered.
Story Snippets
The game starts off in 1915 in San Francisco. Our character, named Makoto Daito, wishes to flee his hard life in America. To so he jumps abroad a ship headed to Japan. Leaving behind the prejudice he faces as a half American, half Japanese citizen, he hopes to be surrounded by people who look like him back in his mother’s hometown.

However, skipping abroad the ship doesn’t go as planned. Here Makoto, and another character named Yu are captured by a new Smuggler character named Orpheus, played by none other than Snoop Dogg. One of Snoop’s sons, Cordell Broadus, also makes an appearance in the game, but we’ll have to wait to find out in what capacity. Orpheus asks both Yu and Makoto why they’re abroad the ship, with both yelling that they want to go to Japan at the same time. The story of Yu and Makoto intertwines and spans over 50 years, with the game taking place throughout different periods of time.
Making A Life As A Showman
Orpheus quickly finds out that Makoto has a talent with music. Makoto is able to find rhythm and beats around town, able to create compositions out of the various sounds. He later on also manages shows, doing the promotion for the shows, and recruiting new singers and composers. In 1951, Yu and Makoto meet Suzy in Atami. Suzy, played by Tori Kelly, looks to sing on the greatest stage in the seaside town, and will greatly influence both Yu and Makotos paths.

Brand New Combat System
For the first time from RGG, the player will now be in control of the right and left parts of the body independently from each other. Pressing RT will trigger and attack with Makotos’ right hand, whereas the left trigger will cause an attack from the left hand. The game also features charged inputs, dealing harder hitting, visceral attacks.
Weapons also play a much larger role in Stranger Than Heaven than previous RGG games. Makoto will use a variety of weapons, ranging from swords to hammers to knives. Weapons can also be crafted and improved, a necessary feature as you make your way throughout the game.
