Yacht Club Games’ Mina the Hollower has finally returned following a surprise delay late last year. The Shovel Knight developers’ sophomore title has announced its new release date, which is surprisingly soon.
Mina the Hollower is the second major title from Yacht Club Games, the studio that became an industry darling with the release of Shovel Knight in 2015. The success of the retro-inspired 2D platformer led to collaborations with major industry giants like Nintendo, PlayStation, and Microsoft, and the game was supported with four standalone expansions, multiple spin-offs, and cameos in other titles.
Yacht Club originally began a Kickstarter campaign for Mina the Hollower in 2022, which went on to receive over $1.4 million in support of the game’s production. Originally slated with a December 2023 release window, the game’s formal release date was confirmed for late October 2025, before being delayed just over three weeks for release. Now, the studio has finally confirmed that the game will release on May 29, 2026, for $19.99.
Following its delay, a studio profile from Bloomberg revealed that Yacht Club Games had been facing financial troubles during Mina the Hollower’s development, with the studio’s future resting on the success of the game. Soon after, the studio communicated that the final release date for Mina the Hollower would not be revealed until after the game had been submitted to platform holders for certification to avoid further delays.
Despite these issues, anticipation has been steadily building thanks to the public release of demos across PC and console platforms. It seems like the stage is set for Mina to be one of the big breakout indie games of 2026, and here’s hoping it lives up to Shovel Knight’s legacy.
Mina the Hollower will release for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 29.
