Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ announcement quickly approaching its one-year anniversary. Yet the game’s roster has only taken shape in the last few months. Of the total 20 playable characters, the confirmed roster has grown to 14 confirmed fighters with the new reveal that Black Panther and Hulk will be joining the Fighting Avengers team.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is the latest 4v4 tag-fighter from Arc System Works, the studio behind iconic fighting games such as Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and Dragon Ball FighterZ. The game is being made in partnership with PlayStation Studios XDev. This builds on Sony’s relationship with Marvel Games through titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine.
Following the reveal of Peni Parker and the Amazing Guardians team in March, Arc System Works and Sony took the stage at EVO Japan to reveal the debut look at Black Panther and Hulk. This also came with the confirmation that they will be part of the Fighting Avengers team alongside Captain America and Iron Man. Black Panther will be based on Princess Shuri’s incarnation of the character, while Hulk dons dinosaur bone armor.
Complementing Black Panther’s inclusion, a new stage based on Wakanda has also been revealed. A new character is also being teased titled “The Champion”. According to the PlayStation Blog post, the Fighting Avengers will have to face in a tournament, seemingly in some of the game’s story focused content.
Only six characters remain to be revealed (alongside at least four DLC characters). Characters such as Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider have yet to be assigned teams. There are plenty of corners of the Marvel universe still yet to be explored. These include the Defenders and Inhumans (although Daredevil has been teased in one of the game’s stages).

According to Arc System Works on the PlayStation Blog, the game will be playable Combo Breaker in Chicago, Illinois, on May 22nd, and Hong Kong Comic Con on May 29. Given the amount of time until the game’s August 6, it’s not unreasonable to expect a new character reveal or two during at least one of these events.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will release for PC and PlayStation 5 on August 6. Who will be your mains? Let us know in the comments down below. Don’t forget to find fellow players over at the Gamer Social Club discord. Keep checking back for all of your Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls news.
