At the April 2026 ID@Xbox Showcase, we witnessed the reveal trailer for a new very mysterious adventure game, Lofsöng. Developed by Unrelated Studio, Lofsöng is set in “haunting brutalist world guided by sound, resonance” and features a mysterious origami companion”. Played from an third-person perspective, Lofsöng has an art style and presentation that appears to blend elements of Limbo with one of the most brilliant modern indies, Cocoon.
Exploring the atmospheric world of Lofsöng, players will “navigate monumental landscapes, uncover hidden paths, and decode memories left behind”. The game will utilise sound-driven mechanics where the games sounds are part of the experience, with each noise bringing its own meaning. The game is set on a dead Earth, one enduring an endless nuclear winter. The games journey to the epicentre of the Exclusion Zone will take players into the “cosmic unknown”.

Taking inspiration from games like Journey, the player will cross dust seas and environments making use of their shapeshifting origami companion. The companion can become a kite, a glider or a sailboat with more unlocking as you discover more of the brutalist world. Lofsöng offers no map and no dialogue, it’s a game that wants you to explore its world and use the sounds that will take you in its intriguing greyscale journey.
The most exciting thing that we know about Lofsöng already, is what we don’t know. The developers promise that this will be a journey brimming with secrets on multiple layers. Unrelated Studio have said that the journey doesn’t end when the credits roll. This could be an adventure like the Outer Wilds that you have to unravel for yourself.
There isn’t yet a release window for Lofsöng. We can look forward to finding out more about this Xbox Play Anywhere game later this year as the game launches on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC. The game was not confirmed to be joining Game Pass at this time. Players can wishlist on Steam now.
