Gaming’s worst kept secret has officially been revealed. Yes, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been, finally, officially, announced.
That’s right, 13 years after the original, Black Flag Resynced looks to be a faithful recreation of the excellent original. It has been rebuilt from the ground up in the latest version of Anvil engine, taking on new improvements from the more modern Assassin’s Creed titles.
The game is a single player, the excellent multiplayer and the game’s DLC, unfortunately, will not be returning. However, it is the same story, the same lead in Edward Kenway, “elevated to new level of realism and immersion.” Matt Ryan returns as Edward Kenway, the rebellious scoundrel in the search of glory. There will be some new additions to the core story, including new narrative arcs such as for Blackbeard and Steve.

Ubisoft have applied improvements across the board in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Visually, the game looks fantastic with high resolutuion textures, enhanced lighting, and a new dynamic weather system. The game looks as lovely as you would expect a modern-day Assassin’s Creed title. There’s a wealth of improved detail, including in the underwater environments.
The combat system has been reworked to be an ‘action oriented experience’. Combat should feel faster and more fluid. You’ll get use combos, takedowns and the environment to takedown foes. Not only that, the series’ iconic parkour system has been enhanced and refined to make speed and navigation feel more fluid. It should feel more like the modern AC games do.
Something I’m excited about is the improved stealth system that allows you to crouch and sneak whenever you’d like This gives you more freedom for how you approach objectives. On top of that, the instant desynching mission fails have been removed. These now result in the mission changing, such as devolving into combat, rather than having to restart.
The original Black Flag’s sailing is still there in all its fun glory, with new improvements. New crew members, with their own backstories will be available to you. Completing their quests unlocks them as crew members on the Jackdaw, giving you new abilities for your ship to employ. You can also have a cat or monkey as a pet on the Jackdaw (instant 10 / 10). The sea shanties are still there if you fancy a lovely sail across the seas, the originals, as well as some new ones too.

Ubisoft has also announced a Collector’s Edition that includes a figurine of Edward Kenway, as well as a brooch, a cloth map and a copy of Edward’s journal, featuring notes and entries of his adventures.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced releases on 9 July 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
