Fortnite Unveils Peak Skin…and Its Price

If you haven’t been completely disconnected from the video game world since 2017, you no doubt are aware of Fortnite. This survival battle-royale developed by Epic Games touts its veritable labyrinthine amount of player skins. Do you want to play as Peter Griffin? How about Spider-Man? Fancy getting a Number One Victory Royale…as Billie Eilish? Anything is possible in Fortnite. Including your very own skin from the renowned title Peak.

Over this past weekend, Epic Games partnered up with Peak‘s developer, Aggro Crab, to launch several Peak-themed cosmetics. The main selling point is the customizable scout uniform, much like what the player can do in Peak, along with a backpack. Here’s….where it gets kind of rough to hear. And I’m talking about the price – and the not the consequences of running out of stamina when scaling a cliff wall in Peak.

Skin Pricing

If you want to get your hands on this Peak skin, it’s going to cost you…2300 V-Bucks, which is the in-game Fortnite currency. But how much is that in actual real money? About $23 – 2000 V-Bucks for the skin itself, and another 300 for the back-pack. And yes, Bing-Bong gets to come along in said backpack.

Here’s…the problem. While I do occasionally dabble in the world of Fortnite (in No Build mode), I know that the custom skins cost the real bucks. This is also understandable, as at the end of the day, Fortnite is a free-to-play game. This is where I have to take a moment to pause, however. This custom skin package will run you $23 (which gets you 2400 V-Bucks). The current price of a copy of Peak? $7.99 and it’s currently on sale for $4.95.

To many gamers, including myself, this seems almost…comical, to a certain extent. A cosmetic item from a game costing over two times (currently almost four times) the price of the game from which the cosmetic comes from itself. I myself have played quite a bit of Peak and I sincerely hope that at the end of the day, the Aggro Crab is getting their bag when it comes to this partnership.
