Rotating Puzzle RPG Cassette Boy Gets A Release Date

Amidst the plethora of announcements at the Game Awards and all the showcases leading up to it, Wonderland Kazakiri Inc. has revealed the release date for their upcoming puzzle RPG, Cassette Boy. This news comes within weeks of the developers announcing that the game would be published by Pocketpair, the studio behind 2024’s Palworld.

Announced on Monday, December 8th, Cassette Boy will be released on PC via Steam on January 14th, 2026. You can watch the date reveal trailer below.

Cassette Boy is an isometric puzzle RPG brought to life in nostalgic pixel art, which harkens back to the visuals of the original Game Boy. The moon has disappeared, and now your world is falling apart, with things that matter blinking out of existence. It’s up to you to keep looking and bring back the moon.

Inspired by the theories of Quantum Mechanics and the questions they raise, the game plays with the idea of object permanence. What appears to be a 2D world to explore suddenly becomes 3D by simply rotating the map, revealing to the player things they could not see before, and thus technically did not exist. As the game’s Steam page puts it, “That person you just spoke to? The switch you were about to press? If they leave the screen, they’re gone.” It is this “Schrödinger System” that determines what is there and what is not.

Mastering this control over what exists and what doesn’t, based on your perspective, creates all kinds of challenges and opportunities, from hiding obstacles to revealing hidden paths. But you won’t be utilising your ability to manipulate “existence” just to solve puzzles in Cassette Boy, but also collecting weapons and fighting monsters and bosses.

Sometimes, all it takes to find a solution is a change of perspective.

Cassette Boy releases on PC via Steam on January 14th, 2026. A demo for Cassette Boy is available on Steam, which w highlighted in an issue of the DSC Demo Disc.
