Expedition 33’s “Thank You“ Update is a Work of Art for Fans

Fresh off of winning a record 9 awards at yesterday’s The Game Awards – see a full recap here – including Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has released a whole host of updates and improvements for fans to disappear into.

One of these updates comes in the form of new playable content! Verso’s Drafts is a totally new place for the party to explore and is sure to house some new enemies and plenty of things to uncover. This new area can be found on the World Map right next to Lumiére (credit: Polygon). You’ll have to have already made it to Act III and have Esquie’s Underwater ability in order to access this new content. You may also find an “Old Key” lying around here if you missed it earlier in the game.

I think most would be perfectly happy if this was everything Sandfall gave its fans, however the “Thank You” update is an even more robust update than gamers expected. Along with the new explorable area, fans can expect to find new costumes for their favorite Expeditioners to don, new weapons and Luminas for them to equip and experiment with, and new late-game bosses to use those new toys on! These new bosses will be more challenging versions of familiar enemies and they can be found loitering in the Endless Tower.

A new quality of life improvement that came with the update is the ability to save multiple lumina loadouts or “Lumina Sets” that you can switch between when the occasion calls for it (like if you get angry and want to just Stendhal everything to death). Along with a myriad of languages and performance improvements are perhaps two of my personal favorite goodies in this grab bag of excellence, is the addition of a Photo Mode (thank the Painters!) and new music from the award-winning composer, Lorien Testard. As Sandfall themselves stated, you can celebrate Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 winning Game of the Year by blasting the new tracks and “let your neighbours know they’ll have to listen through the walls.”

Will you be diving back into Lumiére with this new update? Let us know your favorite new track in Verso’s Drafts and stay here for updates on all the news from The Game Awards! For a full list of all the “Thank You” updates, check here!

I moved from the US to Prague back in 2010. Since then I've been the main English teacher and coordinator at a few schools, got myself a family, wrote a couple of children's books with my wife, experienced a good amount of homelessness (best diet ever), and through everything, I've leaned on my love and passion for gaming. I've gone from impressing my dad on the Atari to my students calling me a middle aged gamer and now I get to share my passion with my kids. Best artform ever.
