Control Resonant Announced, Coming in 2026

The long awaited next title in the Control franchise from acclaimed studio Remedy has been announced today at The Game Awards with Control Resonant. While not a numbered sequel it is a sequel to the 2019 Game of the Year winner that will stand alongside the first title.

Control Resonant will take Remedy back to its roots with a much more single player and story focused game after this years PvE focused FBC: Firebreak launched in the summer to a rather mixed reception.

In Resonant players will take control of Dylan Faden, a former captive of the Federal Bureau of Control. The Bureau is now deploying Faden to fight off a mysterious cosmic entity. While learning to harness all his powers Dylan will also be seeking out his sister, FBC Direction Jesse Faden. Jesse is the protagonist from the first Control game.

Players will be exploring the dangerous area of Manhattan as the world is warped and distorted by the mysterious force that has invaded. You will also find perception-bending locations and journey beyond the material world into a mysterious metaphysical space reflecting Dylan Faden’s troubled psyche.

For players who are wondering if they need to have played the original game, while it would probably be best you did, Remedy says you can jump into Resonant regardless of your previous experience with the series.

“CONTROL Resonant pushes our paranatural action RPG series into an expansive, reality-warping playground of choice, power, and consequence,” said Mikael Kasurinen, Creative Director of CONTROL Resonant. “You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience. It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it.”

Also a big change is that Control Resonant will not be a third person shooter like Control was. Dylan is ditching the guns for a more melee focused combat. This will make Resonant feel much different, perhaps showing why Remedy feels gamers can go into it blind.

Control Resonant is set to release sometime in 2026 for Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and Steam.
