Dead Space Creator Contacts New EA Leaders About Series Revival

Glen Schofield, the executive producer on the 2008 Dead Space original has been in touch with EA’s new leaders about permission to create a fourth entry in the modern classic sci-fi horror series.

EA are currently being acquired by a consortium of investors including the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) to the tune of an eye-watering $55bn.

Though EP on the original, Schofield wasn’t involved in the excellent sequel, Dead Space 2, nor its more action shooter third entry, Dead Space 3. Schofield had developed spiritual successor flop, 2022’s The Callisto Protocol at studio Striking Distance who he left in 2023.

EA faithfully remade Dead Space in 2023 and it was an excellent remake. Though poor sales led EA to walk away from the series revival and thus there are no plans to remake Dead Space 2, unfortunately.

Glen Schofield interview

In an interview with IGN, Schofield said that he is “already making calls” to the new EA owners with a desire to make a new much-desired fourth entry from series fans.

He had visited EA “recently and they’re like no, we’re not interested anymore”. Promising to save them a lot of money on production costs by using assets from Dead Space remake studio, EA Motive he told EA: “I need the models from EA Motive and I can save you 30 to 40 million dollars on the idea that I have. And, they’re like, ‘no’.”

Fortunately, Glen persists to have the series see another day. In the interview he says “I have quite a few ideas that I’m ready to go with and one of them is Dead Space 4”; but went on to say he’s unsure on the publishers position on the series: “I don’t know where EA’s head is right now, I don’t think they made money on [the Dead Space remake]. Dead Space needs to be adapted to different mediums — movies, TV series, it would be great.

“But I am more optimistic [since the sale of EA], because somebody new could buy [the Dead Space IP].”

What stance the new EA owners will have on creativity or cash cows remains to be seen. Battlefield 6 has just launched and sold 7m copies within days. Meanwhile, the FC (FIFA) series Ultimate Team remains one of the company’s largest income generators.

If you’re looking for a new title familiar to Dead Space, Cronus: The New Dawn from Bloober Team released last month and we had high praise in our review.
