The gameplay for SAROS is here. Is it the follow up we always wanted from the studio that made Returnal? Based on the trailer we saw today during the State of Play, yes, yes it is.
The Spiritual Successor to Returnal: SAROS
It’s no secret that Returnal was one of the flagship titles in the PS5’s launch way back in April 2021. Since that time, fans have been itching for a successor and it appears we finally have one. The trailer shows that everything that made Returnal so great has been reborn in spectacular fashion. From the flashy, quick movements of your character to the larger then life enemies trying to take you down, it appears that Housemarque has done it again.
Building on the studio’s expertise in explosive action and mysterious storytelling, SAROS is a new adventure set on the lost off-world colony of Carcosa during an ominous eclipse. You play as Arjun Devraj, performed by Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher). Arjun is a powerful Soltari Enforcer who will stop at nothing to find who he is looking for. After each death you’ll face a changed world – but you can permanently upgrade and customize your loadout. This mechanic will enable Arjun to come back stronger every time.

The trailer gives us a basic glance into the gameplay aspects that players can come to expect in SAROS. The dynamic, fast paced movement system from Returnal is evident almost immediately. The gameplay looks to be an improved version of the developers previous systems. We also get a chance to see a new feature in action called “Second Chance” that allows the player to revive one time to keep your current run alive. They also talked about how this new system is meant to help the players feel as if they “always come back stronger”, a much wanted change from the previous system. The idea sounds like a more than needed quality of life additions to Returnal’s formula. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on it and see how it feels in action.
SAROS is releasing in March 2026 on PS5 exclusively. I for one can’t wait to see what else the game has in store for us. Will you be eagerly awaiting SAROS? Let us know down below.
