Ever since the news dropped that we’d be getting a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, the countdown has been on. Final Fantasy Tactics was the first Tactics RPG that I truly dove into and it’s a love that has never died. Even with the news that there would be some script changes, the hype has not died out. Now seeing the gameplay trailer and being reminded of the movement, the classes, and the strategy, has me wishing it was release day already.
In the new trailer, the quick look at movement and actions give a glimpse of what players can expect (or be reminded of) during combat. What is new for all players is the spoken voice lines we see during combat. Seemingly so, these are voice lines not just for main characters, but even for more generic units on the field. Commenters on the official YouTube video even noted this would make these units feel even more personalized. Be careful not to lose them!
The trailer gives us very quick, blink and you miss them, images of how to get your characters new abilities. In the trailer we see the quick view of the Mystic class with just enough points to unlock the Umbra action. A successful Umbra action will blind your foe and hopefully cause them to miss any team members they aim for. You can watch the trailer over and over to catch that beautiful sight.

In Final Fantasy Tactics classes are extremely important. It’s not just about upgrading the class that a character comes in with. In fact, characters can change their classes along the way. The trailer also provided a quick glance at almost 20 classes that characters can take on. The classes range from a variety of mages, to classic classes such as Dragoons and Bards. Choose the best balance for your party as you go into battle.

Even with the graphical updates, the game hasn’t lost the whimsy of the original. The characters look just slightly cleaned up and easier on the eyes than the original. Graphics have come a long way since it’s original 1997 release. Having both the original game and the remaster is such a brilliant choice to allow for audiences new and old to experience this entry in the Final Fantasy universe. New players who may be used to things such as auto save will find these in the enhanced version. Those of us classic old heads who don’t want to rely on it can play the classic version. Pick your poison players!
