Valiant Hearts: The Great War is one of the most moving games from last generation. The 2014 Ubisoft title told a deeply emotional tale set during the global disaster that was WWI. Set during a time where warfare was rapidly moving to an industrial and supply chain effort, rather than traditional hand and sword battles, we witnessed stories of the people of the Great War intertwine in a depressing tale.

The sequel, Valiant Hearts: Coming Home released in 2024 continued and concluded the story of the original's characters.

Now, the original Valiant Hears is getting a spiritual successor in Letters of War which will launch on Steam on 14 August 2025. Letters of War will be based during WWII, rather than WWI.

Letters of War uses the same comic book art style from the Valiant Hearts games and from the trailer looks like it'll heavily adopt the gameplay style too.

However, as technology had move on by the time WWII begun we will have access to the likes of gun-mounted planes, more sophisticated weaponry and more.

But action is not the core element of Letters of War and it's inspiration, Valiant Hearts, the games are all about the stories they tell. The story is based on a true WWII tale of the developer's grandmother, as we follow British carpenter Liam's journey across the Western Front.

Along the Western Front we will travel to mainland Italy, Monte Cassino and Normandy's Sword Beach. Liam's little daughter, Rosie waits at home for Liam's return and during the war is only in touch with her father by letters.

In what promises to be another tear-jerking tale, will Liam keep his promise to Rosie and make it home to Blighty?
