Good news demon slayers. The Painkiller release date has been announced.
That’s right, Saber Interactive has confirmed that the modern reimagining of the classic action franchise will release on 9 October 2025. The game will release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. A physical edition for PS5 and Xbox will be available.
The announcement was made through a new ‘Pre-Order Trailer’ where lots of things died. Check out the trailer below:
In the trailer, we get to see some of the intense co-op game’s action, featuring a whole load of fun-looking weapons. Explosions, electric, ice, all from the barrel of a gun! Lots of fun!
The trailer also teased a mean looking boss, a four-legged glowing beasty. Could that be a boss we’ll be taking on? We’ll find out before long.

In Painkiller, you’ll be battling through Purgatory to fight for your redemption. Apparently you’ve made some blasphemous sins against Heaven (what, the whole place?). You’ll take on all the demonic hordes have to offer, using a wide range of new and returning classics from the Painkiller series.
You’ll get to pick one of four characters: Ink, Void, Sol and Roch. They all have unique perks that can give you different buffs, such as health upgrades, or damage boosts. You can play solo, or with online co-op for up to three players.
You’ll be able to upgrade your abilities through the use of Tarot cards, which you can rank up to expand the options available to you.

Versions
Alongside the Painkiller release date, a standard and deluxe edition were also confirmed. Preordering either nabs you the “Iron Crusade skin pack” which features skins for all four playable characters. You’ll also get skins for six weapons, including:
- The Electrodriver
- Stakegun
- Shotgun
- SMG
- Hand Cannon
- Rocket Launcher
Preordering the physical edition also gets you the ‘retail-exclusive’ “Burnished Pride” weapons pack, which includes additional gold skins for the aforementioned weapons.
The Deluxe Edition appears to be digital only but includes three post-launch DLC, each including six weapon skins and four character skins.

We know how popular Doom has been since the 2016 reboot, and the recent Doom: The Dark Ages was fantastic. With Painkiller going for similar vibes, it looks like it could be onto a winner.
Are you looking forward to this reimaging of the classic franchise? Or are you disappointed with what you’ve seen?
