Whilst Rockstar get their head stuck down working towards Grand Theft Auto 6’s May 26 2026 launch, fans have been consistently reminding them to not forget about their other flagship series, Red Dead.
Red Dead Redemption 2, the third and latest release in the series released on consoles back in 2018 and PC in 2019, but is yet to see a current-generation upgrade. The most recent release however, was the original Red Dead Redemption which was remastered for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2023.
But finally, it sounds like we might be getting some news in the coming days. Actor Rob Wiethoff of John Marston _ the main protagonist in Red Dead Redemption, as well as a key role in Red Dead Redemption 2 _ fame, teased the news on stream.
On the stream (which you can watch back on YouTube), Wiethoff said: “I’ve got such exciting news, I can’t share it with you right now, and it’s absolutely killing me” and went on to say “Not as soon as tomorrow, but definitely before Friday, oh my goodness, the news I have to share, and I won’t be the only one sharing it, I cannot wait for you to see what’s going on.
“I am so excited, I truly cannot think of anything else, especially playing this game, I can’t think of anything else other than what I want to tell you so bad.” You should skip to 37:00 of the stream to hear Wiethoff’s tease.
Whether the news is a launch on the hottest hardware on the planet, Nintendo Switch 2 or a current-gen Xbox and PlayStation upgrade (or perhaps both) will be clear in the days to come. We know that current-gen hardware is entirely capable to run Rockstar games well, as GTA VI’s latest trailer was running on a base PS5.
