People Can Fly Cancels Two Projects, Hit With Layoffs

Developer People Can Fly has been in the news quite a bit this year. Sadly, today’s news is not the kind they want to have. The studio’s CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski has put out a statement on social media saying they have had to lay off a significant portion of the studio and cancel two games that were in production.

While we don’t know specifics of the 2 games, we do know that they were in development under the project names Gemini and Bitfrost. Perhaps what’s most worrying about the news, besides the people losing their jobs of course, is the fact that Gemini is being cancelled because of a lack of a communication from the publisher they signed with.

People Can Fly CEO's full statement

"The suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on Project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project," said Wojciechowski.

Without knowing much about the project it's hard to really say who that publisher is or why they aren’t communicating. We know People Can Fly is working on Gears Of War E-Day with The Coalition and Xbox, but this is not that.

Also because of the cancellation of Project Gemini that has directly affected Project Bitfrost to the point where they need to cancel it as well.

"Project Bifrost was suspended due to the above and the analysis of the Group's cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organizational resources and funds necessary to continue the production and release of this project."

Ultimately this has led to a number of people being laid off at the studio. This comes after an earlier round of job cuts back in December of 2024 which saw the studio let go 120 employees.

Highs & Lows

As mentioned off the top, People Can Fly has been making the news quite a bit recently, with a mix of good and bad news. Earlier this year in April the studio announced that they had cancelled Project Dagger. Project Dagger was an action RPG that was originally picked up by Take-Two, although Take-Two later dropped it. People Can Fly was going to self publish instead but decided that was no longer feasible.

Also back in March they announced a partnership with PlayStation to develop a game for a PlayStation owned IP. Some have wondered if one of today’s cancelled projects was the PlayStation game, however that had a codename of Project Delta, so it appears safe.

With such a wild swing of positive and negative news for the studio you have to wonder how morale is at the company. We wish the best for all those affected by today’s layoffs and hope they find work in the industry soon.
