Doom: The Dark Ages – All Chapter 9: Ancestral Forge Upgrades & Collectibles

Doom: The Dark Ages is here. The latest shooter in the Doom franchise from iD has a bit of a different feel with its more open world style of levels. Within each level is many different secrets on the form of collectibles, upgrades and other items. This guide will help you with finding all the upgrades and collectibles in Chapter 9: Ancestral Forge.

Demonic Essence – Health

During the first major encounter you will gain this by defeating one of the stronger enemies.

Purple Key

In the same area where you obtain the health upgrade you will find a breakable wall. Behind it will be the purple key and some gold.

Wraithstone

From the purple key turn around and go pretty much to the opposite side of this too area to find another path. Break the gate with your shield saw and you will come to a door locked behind 3 wolf statues. The first one to break is directly infront of you above the wolf statue.

The second one is quite far away. Progress to the left side of the map and activate the second part of the forge. Drop down and turn left. Defeat a wave of enemies and then you will see the wolf which you can break.

The third wolf is actually all the way back at the beginning of the level. Now that you have the purple key you can run back to where the level started and open the purple gate. Inside will be the wolf to break.

With all 3 wolves destroyed you can now return to the puzzle location and grab the wraithstone.

Codex – Ancestral Forge

Progress through the level to the far upper left hand corner of the map. There will be a little spot you can drop down to grab some gold and this codex.

Collectible Toy – Vagary

Continue until you flip the third and final switch for the forge. After flipping the switch head to the right where you will see an area you can jump across to with a locked purple gate. Go through the gate and follow the path here.

After a few jumps and climbs you will get to the top of the area and find the collectible toy.

Ruby #1

Directly next to the previous collectible is the Ruby.

Ruby #2

Proceed through the level now to reach the second area. Defeat some enemies and at the end of the first room you will likely notice the Ruby behind a gate. In behind the large crate in the middle of this area is a breakable wall, break it and head inside the small room.

Now look to the left of the small room to find a hole in it with a chain to break with shield saw. Do so and the gate will open giving you access to the Ruby.

Codex #2 – King Novic

Proceed further and do some platforming. You will get to a section where you have to climb twice to reach a higher spot on these platform looking things. Once on top look up and you can shield saw a platform high above.

Now continue on to the platform that you need to put the shield saw into in order to raise it. Once it gets to the top look to the left and now you will see that other platform you lowered. Jump across then do a shield recall jump across the next gap. You should now see 2 collectibles across from this platform. Jump across and grab the codex.
