The gaming community issued a collective sigh today as Grand Theft Auto VI was delayed until May 26 2026. Previously the title was scheduled for "˜2025' and widely expected to be October / November this year. At least we now have a firm release date - and with that likely some very happy competitor publishers who can plan their own releases around the Rockstar juggernaut.

In a press-release that has been issued around the news of today's delay, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes that Fiscal Year 2026 (ending March 31 2026) will be excellent for the publisher's earnings. That's despite the delay of GTA VI in to the following FY. In the statement, Zelnick commented "We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a ground-breaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations"
Zelnick went on to say that "As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders." Said pipeline includes Take-Two's other biggest launch of the year, Borderlands 4 which earlier this week had its release date pushed forward, alongside a 20-minute State of Play.
Whilst I don't think there's any concerns about Take-Two's financial sustainability as they hold the GTA IP, it is still interesting to hear how the publisher feels about its future. That said, alongside today's news Take Two's stocks are currently down over 8% at the time of writing, with live Nasdaq numbers available via Yahoo.
One question remains topical online, how much will GTA VI cost? Nintendo Switch 2 games are set to cost up to $80, even for "˜Switch 2 Edition' remasters of Switch 1 games. Earlier this week, Microsoft confirmed Xbox games will increase in price up to $79.99 USD from later this year.
