Unlock the “Detectorist” achievement / trophy in Atomfall for finding a metal detector, without having trade / barter.

Atomfall is the latest, and newest game from the developers of Sniper Elite and Zombie Army, Rebellion. Their newest title is something of a first-person survival mystery game, where you must figure out what’s really going on in the Quarantine Zone in Windscale.

You must unravel the mystery, escape the Quarantine Zone and try to survive, and there’s plenty of wonderful ways to do that in the game that will earn you tasty achievements / trophies (if you’re so inclined).

“Detectorist” Achievement / Trophy

The “Detectorist” achievement / trophy should be one of the first ones you get in Atomfall. You’ll pop it for picking up the metal detector, a key tool as your explore the post-nuclear disaster wasteland. And although this is almost a no-brainer cheevo to get, there are a couple of ways to get it.

1. Barter and trade with Reg Stansfield

I came across the metal detector first of all upon entering the “Slate Mine Caves” which are to your right as you enter the main play area of Atomfall right at the start. This is where you see the iconic red phone box. Head right and you’ll come across a helicoptor crash site. Take out the guy having a wee (don’t take the piss) and head into the mines ahead of him.

In the mines, you’ll find Reg, who gives you a bit of a lowdown of what’s going on in the Quarantine Zone. When you get the option to Barter with him you’ll notice he has a metal detector. You can use what little you have to buy it from him, but there is another way…

2. Get it for free

If you head out of the caves, down the slope, where all the graffiti on the walls tell you you’re not welcome, you’ll enter “Slatten Dale”. Head to the left and head towards the small pond like area. You’ll see a small stone island in the middle and then across from that, a dead body.

Head to the body, but don’t stay in the water, there’s some nasty piranha-esque fishies in there. You’ll see the metal detector there. Pick it up and voila, one metal detector, free of charge.
