Each Sea of Thieves season tends to have a theme, and season 15 has fans speculating it will be focused round hunting – specifically a new breed of the ferocious megalodon. While that may seem obvious to most, there do appear to be a number of other clues in the clip that we’ll leave for you to spot! What has us intrigued is the free range pig on board the sail boat – are we looking at a new pet, or a new type of bait?
Sea of Thieves Season 15 comes at an interesting time for Rare; 2025 marks the studio’s 40th anniversary! The new season is also arriving just after the game had an excellent 2024, topping pre order charts before launching to on PlayStation 5 with healthy sales. Rare also announced that Sea of Thieves had passed the 40 million player mark in April last year – how appropriate!

This doesn’t guarantee smooth sailing for this year. Rare has stayed very quiet about their current project Everwild since it was first revealed in 2019. With a company Christmas card themed on the game shared on social media, maybe fans can look forward to seeing more later this year. There is also the matter of Craig Duncan, originally the Head of Rare, becoming the Head of Xbox Studios in December. Even planned departures can lead to a precarious situation, so this year will be theirs to prove that Rare still has it.
