Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap has finally released on Xbox Series S/X and PC as well as day 1 on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. As we've been plugging away at the game before launch for our review, we've put together a few guides. This one is for the Traps Are Weak achievement for beating a mission without spending any coin.

Not only is this task an achievement you will also need to complete it to complete the accompanying thread which is required for the Threads Of Fate achievement for completing all threads.

The More Difficult Way

There are essentially 2 ways to accomplish this task. The difficult way is playing solo and doing it on your own. While you are able to drop barricades you cannot spend money on a single trap or sentinel. This makes a mission much more difficult, especially playing solo.

I would use either Max (if you are unsure how to unlock Max you can learn how here) due to his overpowering skills and attacks, or Kalos for his healing and overall tankiness. Kalos Calling Stone ability will help a lot as well.

If you can't find anyone to play with my best suggestion is to play a map where the rift has health rather than one where the Orcs jump into. My personal recommendation would be Fish Market. You can block most paths to the rift to funnel the Orcs easily. You will have enough barricades to block all stairs except for 2. Leave 1 space open here:

If done correctly the first 2 waves will only be able to come up the second set of stairs where you can stand at the top and shoot away with Max. Or run down and melee with Kalos. Wave 3-6 will come through both spots so just hang near the rift and do your best to fend them off.

Since the goal is less about saving as many rift points as possible and more so just surviving the mission, this combination of maps and characters should give you plenty of leeway to complete the mission without spending any coin. Simply kill as many as you can before they get to the rift and then while they are focused on the rift you can finish any off. With 40+ points to spare you should be ok.

If you are going to do this solo, I would recommend levelling up your War Mage a bit first before attempting this.

The Easy Way

If you can find a partner however, this achievement becomes much more doable. Again you can use the same player and map combination as you would solo, however a second player makes this task a breeze.

While your coins will be split up and your rift's health will be half what it was solo, with this method your partner can spend money and deploy traps. So long as the person going for the achievement doesn't spend anything then they will pop the achievement when the mission is completed.

Let your partner pick up all the coin drops possible and try to get most of the kills so they can earn most of the coins for traps. Do your best to support them when needed and hopefully pick threads that can help them.

Regardless of which option you decide to go with for getting this achievement it should be manageable. I'd definitely recommend the easier method though even if it will be a tad boring for that one mission. Happy hunting!
