Tango Gameworks, most recently known for Hi-Fi Rush, announced on Twitter/X that they will be back to developing games. Now owned by KRAFTON Inc, the South Korean video game publisher known for PUBG: Battlegrounds and The Callisto Protocol, Tango is receiving new life and new opportunities.

Tango Gameworks closed June 14, 2024 alongside three other Microsoft owned studios. The news came as a shock to many just a year after Hi-Fi Rush’s release to critical acclaim. Bloomberg news had announced that Tango pitched a sequel, but ultimately the studio closed and the future of Hi-Fi Rush seemed to go dark. In August 2024 KRAFTON announced they had acquired the studio, the Hi-Fi Rush IP, and would be bringing on about 50% of the Tango team as others had already found employment.
It’s worth noting that while Tango has returned, not all of their previous projects have joined them at KRAFTON. Microsoft owns the rights to The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo. They have announced they will work alongside the new ownership on the transition and new Hi-Fi Rush projects. Microsoft has indicated that all previous Tango games will remain available to play on current digital stores including Game Pass.

This does continue to leave the future of Ghostwire: Tokyo sequels uncertain. There have been no new announcements since the leak of Bethesda’s 2024 fiscal year roadmap. We may not see another Ghostwire or Evil Within; but as KRAFTON made sure to purchase the Hi-Fi Rush IP, it feels very likely we’ll see another one in the coming years. Perhaps we may even see the rumored Switch port of Hi-Fi Rush come to fruition!
Either way, this expands KRAFTON’s global reach as they look to continue to invest in the global gaming market. Will they get us that Hi-Fi Rush 2 as soon as possible before it fades from everyone’s memory? Could this be an indication that Keiichiro Toyama was correct in his thoughts regarding sticking to one style of game like we previously reported?
This new life for Tango Gameworks has fans excited for it’s future. GSC felt it was a rare yet welcome move to see the studio be sold. Will this prove to be a good move for all involved? Could this be the first of many times we see this? Will you be looking forward to their next release? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
