We didn’t have to wait long for the first big surprise at The Game Awards as CD Projekt Red officially unveiled The Witcher 4.
The jaw dropping trailer showcases the game running on Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced Nvidia GPU. Before host Geoff Keighley made the announcement he mentioned the game is a ways off. Considering the team just recently shifted to full development it’s safe to say it’s still years away, with reports saying CD Projekt Red hopes to have the game out by the end of 2027.
The trailer sets the stage for Ciri as the new protagonist in The Witcher 4 which suggests the storyline will continue from the original trilogy in some capacity. And while Gerald is not the protagonist, voice actor Doug Cockle let it be known that Geralt is in the game in some capacity.
The Witcher series has become one of the biggest franchises in the world, not just for gaming but for the Netflix series and books as well. CD Projekt Red has also become one of the biggest studios in the world thanks to both the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.
We don’t have any details such as platforms at this point, perhaps suggesting that The Witcher 4 is a next generation game. Time will tell as we learn more over time.
