It appears Square Enix wants to do everything it can to stop relying on platform exclusivity as it works to strengthen it's relationship with Xbox according to Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida.
In an interview today released by Eurogamer Yoshida touched on a wide variety of topics including the reception Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail has received from Xbox fans and Square's desire to release more games on the Xbox platform.

Speaking on Dawntrails reception Yoshida said "Players have been waiting a long time for the Xbox release [of Final Fantasy 14], but I’m happy to say that we’ve seen a really strong response on Xbox, we’ve seen communities starting to establish and now they’re growing. We’ve had a pretty good response on Xbox. With Final Fantasy 14 as an opportunity, we can take this opportunity to strengthen the community on Xbox towards the Final Fantasy franchise"
However as Yoshida says this is isn't just about Final Fantasy but Square Enix as a whole:
"However, at Square Enix, we have been changing our policy. So now we are moving towards the policy of releasing our games on a multiplatform basis, and we really want as many players as possible to play our titles. So with Final Fantasy 14 as the starting point, we do want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, and there will be more of our titles released on Xbox. So I hope players will look forward to future things to come on the platform."
This isn't the first time a major executive at Square has mentioned publishing more games on Xbox. During their financial results meeting back in May the company said they were launching a new strategy dubbed "Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens" which was designed to become a more multiplatform publisher.

How long it will take to implement this new path and start bringing more games to Xbox remains to be seen. Final Fantasy 16 was recently announced for PC with no mention of an Xbox version yet. It could simply be the company still has some exclusivity deals in place with PlayStation and therefore can't fully implement its plan yet.
Either way it is refreshing to hear a major Japanese publisher talk about Xbox in this light as Xbox continues to try and make inroads with more Japanese developers and publishers.
