Hands up, who’s got a favourite Battlefield memory? Mine’s definitely hiding for dear life in a crumbling building while a pro helicopter pilot wiped out multiple squads in our team. With a swift (and partially skilled / entirely lucky)shot, I managed to wipe out that helicopter with a well-placed bazooka shot which gave us just enough time to get to the next objective. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was that game and it still holds a special place in my gaming memories.
If you’ve got memories like that, and are hoping to create more in the future, then good news, we’ve heard word about the next iteration in the massive, all-out warfare series.
In an earnings call yesterday, Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA spoke about his experience playing the new game in the series which he described, perhaps slightly oddly, as ” another tremendous live service” (I guess it makes sense for the context of the call). Read the full quote below:
"This is the largest Battlefield team in franchise history. A few weeks ago, I was visiting with the teams, and I couldn't be more excited about what they showed and what we were able to play."

"I've just spent a whole bunch of time with the collective Battlefield team playing what they're building and it is going to be another tremendous live service."
EA has confirmed that main Battlefield developer DICE are working alongside Criterion, Ripple Effect, and as of last month, Dead Space remake developer Motive on the new entry. Excitingly, EA has described them as creating “a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer experiences and single-player”.
I was relieved to see single-player get a shout out, although they run the risk of being a touch forgettable, I’ve often enjoyed playing the campaigns of previous Battlefield titles.

With this news, alongside the announcement of the final season for current game, Battlefield 2042, it seems it’s full steam ahead towards the new release. Alas, we have no clue when we’ll be able to play it, or indeed when we’ll find out more, but if EA are planning a summer showcase, maybe then?
I think my favourite Battlefield multiplayer more recently has been Battlefield 1, boy did I love that game. What was yours? What would you like to see come to the series. I know that 2042 had a mixed reception and is certainly in a better place than it was on launch, but are you excited for the next game?
