It has been revealed that the classic shooter franchise, Serious Sam is getting another entry. Fans of the franchise should be excited as, The Third Encounter will be a follow up to the 2002 classic, The Second Encounter. Serious Sam hasn’t been a dormant franchise although there was a 9 year hiatus between the third and fourth games, save for a couple smaller spin-offs. The series has had 4 entries in the past 6 years after Serious Sam 4 dropped in 2020, with the most recent entry, Shatterverse dropping earlier this year.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is often considered the series high point and more recent entries have seen mixed reactions, although I had fun with Serious Sam 4 myself. If The Third Encounter can capture the magic of the older games, perhaps it could be a standout among the current line up of great boomer shooters that have dropped recently, such as the terrific Mouse: P.I. For Hire and the Warhammer Boltgun titles – including the recent exceptional sequel.
