Older gamers, let me take you back to early 2006. The XBOX 360 had been on shelves for a few months and there were already some impressive HD games on the market including Perfect Dark Zero, PGR 3 and one of my personal top-25 of all time, Call of Duty 2. All stunning games, all signs of what was to come in the HD era, but they weren’t dropping jaws.
Fast forward a few months and a new contender, physically and metaphorically enters the ring. The game, Fight Night Round 3. This was the first game that made me understand that HD was a game changer for video games. Since Fight Night Round 3, due to some woeful mismanagement – the kind of mismanagement that happens in the real world of boxing itself – EA has only released two further Fight Nights, Round 4 (2009) and Champion (2011) which were also in the 360 generation.
Now, as a new generation of real life boxers emerge and take over from stalwarts like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, a new generation of boxing game is officially in the works. In a post on a brand-new X (Twitter) account, EA said: “Fight Night is coming back.”
To everyone who stayed in our corner:

There is no mention of timescales, details on the game or anything else in the formal announcement. Fans will be likely be most eager to hear about the roster of fighters, career options and stadia in which fights can take place. As someone who has a lot of love for Fight Night, I’m delighted the gloves are being laced back up.
