RetroSpace Janitors’ Patch 1 Addresses Bugs and Brings Quality of Life Updates

retrospace janitors patch 1

Immersive sim, RetroSpace launched last week and was out of the traps with a slightly launch. I really enjoyed my time with the game, although faced a few too many bugs to during my 10-12 hour playthrough, saying: “RetroSpace needs a handful of updates before I can offer the 8/10 I’d have loved to give.”

Fortunately, indie developer team behind the space shooter, The Wild Gentlemen have instantly got to work to squash many of the bugs I faced. Reaching out to GSC, the Director of the game confirmed that the progress blocking bug I encountered has been fixed, alongside much more in the now released Janitors’ Patch #1.

The save system has been updated to be more player friendly, as well as fixing issues with Charley’s quest. Most notably, I was glad to see that they have already made changes to fall damage, which was indeed too much at launch.

RetroSpace Janitor’s Patch #1

The games first patch has addressed the following:

Ladders

The handling of ladders has undergone a major overhaul. Climbing ladders isn’t as insanely fast anymore, making them way easier to navigate, and we’ve also increased the ladders’ collision boxes, giving them a bit of “coyote time,” so it’s much harder to fall off them.

Note for the players: At the end of the ladder, no need to jump. Just go upward and you’ll automatically climb up. If you press an extra jump, the player will push off the ladder.

Fall damage

If you did fall… We’ve fine-tuned the fall damage too, so even if you fall from a ladder (or from any kind of hight) you now have to fall from much greater heights to suffer serious injury or even die.

Charley (Mild Spoilers)

Charley is fixed and tamed now. He no longer can cause a softlock, his quest is updating no matter how you finish him, and some of its values have also been changed.

Spoiler-filled details below:

  • Charley can’t go near to the Heal-O-Dome stations, so he can’t cause a death-loop there.
  • Charley’s health has been significantly nerfed. WARNING! He’s still by far the strongest boss in the game, but now he can be defeated even without performing the secret ritual – as long as you’re careful and resourceful.
  • Charley’s attacks are a little more forgiving.
  • We’ve also reduced Charley’s speed a bit, but his long-range jumps are still dangerous.
  • In addition, we fixed the bug that prevented Charley’s quest from being completed unless it was finished with “the ritual”.

Save system

The save system has also been revamped. From now on, the game will always make an auto save in the Janitors’ Haven hallway, and we’ve also added a “Save and Exit” feature to the in-game menu.

You can still exit the game without saving if you want, but now you have the option to save whenever you leave the game.

Mutamod UI overlap

There was a nasty UI overlap if you purchased a lot of Mutamod upgrades in Dr. Miriam’s Mutamod vending machine. (especially level 2 and level 3 ones) It is fixed now.

New PDA in stasis

We put a PDA (PHCD) in the very first area of the game (Stasis Section), beside the first audio log you encounter. Now you can immediately check your stuff – like the transcripts of the audio logs, objectives, etc.

Luxury code

We fixed the server override code in the Luxury Section. Now if you pair the letters with the numbers in the correct order, you can override the system and no need to brute-force the solution.

Duplicated log

There was a duplicated audio log (History lesson 2), now it can be found only in one place instead of two.

Achievement description fix

One of the achievement descriptions (Warren Wrenchman) was misleading, so we corrected the wording of it.

More on the patch can be found via the Steam blog.

The Wild Gentlemen have stated that more updates are being worked on. I look forward to revisiting this title in the future, it is a shooter that definitely has some replayability with new routes to take, ways to encounter enemies and more.
