The Ace Combat series has been around has been around for 30 years and produced 14 video games in that time. So for a game to be the quickest selling, its a pretty big deal. That’s exactly what Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has done as Bandai Namco has announced that the latest release has sold 1 million copies in its first (official) week.
Ace Combat 8 launched into early access on September 29th and then had its full, standard release a few days later on October 2nd. Since then the title has soared to a million in sales across all platforms. Not only has it been a huge commercial success for Bandai Namco, it has been a critical success as well. As of this writing Ace Combat 8 is the second highest rated game in the series behind only Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies.
This bodes well for the franchise moving forward. Ace Combat 7’s last known sales were over 7 million units as of January 2026. With Ace Combat 8 outpacing even that, could we see the series surpass that? Is 10 million out of the realm of possibilities over the coming years?
Personally speaking, Ace Combat 8 was one of my most anticipated games of the year and I should be starting it in the coming days. The aerial combat games have become a rare genre in gaming, so its great to see the games success.
Perhaps I will see you all in the hangar as we become Aces!
