Surreal Action Roguelite Shape of Dreams Launches on Consoles Today

During the XBOX Tokyo Game Show 2026 Showcase, we got the surprise announcement that the co-op action roguelite game Shape of Dreams, developed by Lizard Smoothie and published by NEOWIZ, is launching on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 today, and joining the XBOX Game Pass library. It comes alongside its largest update since the game launched in September last year.

In Shape of Dreams, up to four players choose from a growing roster of diverse heroes and travel between various dreamscapes, taking on hordes of strange enemies and confronting epic bosses in fast-paced top-down roguelite action. Combine ever-changing skills and upgrades, harness hack-and-slash combat alongside ranged attacks, and slowly fill out your skill tree between runs to refine your playstyle.

As well as a shadowdropped release on consoles and XBOX Game Pass, Shape of Dreams is also getting its largest update to mark the game’s first anniversary. The update, called The Starless Path, and is detailed on the XBOX Wire website, adds a new playable character, a new end boss, and a new ending to the game.

Cetus, a large, bipedal beast who launches ranged attacks using the frost he holds within, joins the roster, bringing the total number of characters to nine. Able to fill various roles, Cetus charges up frost to deliver devastating attacks, control the battlefield using giant glaciers, and protect his allies, depending on how you play them.

The new boss and ending build on what the base game already offered, with players unlocking illustrations, emotes, and hidden stories that link its cast of playable characters together, and those who follow the threads long enough unlock a new adventure of even greater challenge. Six Identity Memories have also been added to the game, letting players replace a Traveler’s core playstyle, and heroic level bosses have been given harder attack patterns at greater difficulties, so there’s plenty for fans to dig into.

And Shape of Dreams already has a lot of fans, with Lizard Smoothie celebrating 1.5 million copies sold only days before today’s announcement, and that’s with the game only available on PC.
