During today’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo have announced the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Remake which will release on November 5, 2026.
The remake was originally revealed at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, following months of leaks. This is the first time that Ocarina of Time has been fully rebuilt, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.

We got an extended look at gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake, played by series Director Eiji Aonuma.
Ocarina of Time’s Switch 2 remake features a redesigned Link and other characters from the now 28 year old original. With a more realistic looking Link, who can now jump with the press of a button, and dash around to move around more quickly than spamming the roll button like in the original. Using the Switch 2 controllers, Link will be able to aim using motion controls for the likes of their slingshot.
Hyrule Field also looks absolutely gorgeous in the remake, with lush green meadows and the intimidating Death Mountain overseeing the world. Threads of Time will track your progress and remind you of story progress. With a large tapestry in the menu completing itself as your adventure progresses.
There are new features to the game also, including mini-games to play in Hyrule Town. Time will progress for the player regardless of their location, whereas in the original the time mechanic paused when in certain locations. There will be different events that take place depending of the in-game time. You can, of course, use the Ocarina to progress time.
Zelda Notes return for Ocarina of Time, following their appearance in the Switch 2 versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Used via the Nintendo smartphone app, players will be able to track their progress, as well as using images on their app to find hidden locations in their game.

Players can hum the Ocarina of Time classic tunes into their Switch 2 to play them in the game. Nintendo will also offer a real world Ocarina which you can play in real life.

How to Play the Original Ocarina of Time
If you’re too young to have played the original Ocarina of Time, it is available via the Nintendo 64 emulator, part of Nintendo Switch Online for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It is a gaming masterpiece that still holds up to this day.
Ocarina of Time has however, been re-released multiple times across different Nintendo platforms. The original launched in 1998 on the Nintendo 64, before coming to the GameCube in 2002 as a bonus disc for purchasers of the beloved The Wind Waker – this version also included the Master Quest version of the game, a higher difficulty option for veterans of the original. It also found its way to the now closed Virtual Console, for both Wii and Wii U.
The 2011 Nintendo 3DS semi-remake featured 3DS specific console support including gyroscope controls and an easier version of the Water Temple.
