At gamescom’s Opening Night Live pre-show, the release date for Mexican inspired Mariachi Legends was announced.

I’ve had my eye on Mariachi Legends for a while now. A combat oriented Metroidvania, steeped in Mexican folklore, what’s not to to love? Well, if you’re like me and been eagerly wondering when you’d be able to get your hands on it, good news. The release date has been confirmed via a brand new trailer. Bad news, you’ll have to wait a little longer to play it.

During the big Opening Night Live (check out our summary for all the announcements) event, hosted by Geoff Keighley, we got another look at the game during the pre-show. The end of the trailer confirms the release date of 27 April 2027. This is later than the expected Q4 of 2026 release which is still showing on Steam at time of writing.

In Mariachi Legends, you’ll play as Detective Pablo Cruz who has made a deal with Death herself! By doing so, Pablo is able to transform into La Sombra, giving him the ability to fight the criminals invading his hometown. The bargain? Pablo has to take the only thing that has eluded Death’s clutches, the man who defied her power and become immortal.

You’ll have an array of weapons and abilities to seek out and employ as you explore this colourful and exciting Metroidvania. You’ll use your detective skills to find abandoned corpses, interrogate suspects and solve unexplained deaths around town.

As you can tell from the trailer, it looks like a lot of fun, with a great looking art style and inspiration for lore. I love what I know about Mexican history, so to explore that further in Mariachi Legends is very exciting.

Mariachi Legends releases 27 April 2027 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series consoles.
