It’s been quite a while since we heard about Neo Berlin, in fact the last time we covered the game here at GSC was a year ago tomorrow. The Berlin-based detective FPS set in a futuristic version of Germany’s steeped in history capital finally has a new dystopian trailer as we edge closer to gamescom, located in same country as Neo Berlin’s setting.
Confriming a 2028 release window, the gamescom 2026 trailer shows a little bit of Neo Berlin’s stealth and shooting gameplay, as well as plenty of story teasers. There’s also footage of the game’s neon city which players will have the opportunity to explore.
At the initial reveal, I was very impressed by the game but slightly dubious about the potential. I, and many others, were genuinely concerned that based on the appearance of the game, it is being created using generative AI – something the developers have since confirmed is not the case stating “The trailers are a mix of early gameplay and cinematics we made in-house, not generative AI.”
The latest developer update which you can read on the game’s Steam FAQ confirms that the games voice cast includes Elias Toufexis – known for Marathon, Hell is Us and other titles as Nolan; with Dunja Stojanovic as Natalie. Despite seeing some positivity for the game from across the world, the developers have said that the game will be voiced in English only at first, with subtitles and other localisation applied for the game.
Neo Berlin 2087 is being developed for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. An exact 2028 release date is yet to be confirmed. Gamers can wishlist on Steam now. I’m still reserving judgement for launch as unanswered questions remain, but I remain confident and hopeful.
