2000s era shooters are having some of a resurgence as of late. As the FPS genre had started to seem a little stale, developers have turned their heads towards what made the genre explode – guns, explosions and plenty of enemies to blow to pieces. Buoyed by the success of the likes of Warhammer 40k: Boltgun, which is to see a sequel later this year, there are a growing number of titles entering this modern-retro FPS space.
Another title that should be on your radar is SPRAWL zero which arrives on PC, XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 early next month. You can catch a glimpse of the cyberpunk city based shooter in the release date trailer below, with the game launching September 8, 2026:
The developes are promising a broad arsenal of over 40 weapons for players to use as they tackle a “cyberpunk city collapsing under military rule and cult fanaticism.”
From a press release sent to GSC about the upcoming title, the game will feature a gritty, grounded world where players can use bullet-time mechanics to ensure they land every bullet on enemies that work together to take you out. There will be a wide-range of handcrafted levels that offer players a multitude of paths to the end, including more aggressive or more tactical plays.
The game will feature ‘Y2K’ graphics which you can see in the trailer, which look very close to the legendary original Half Life. If you’d like to check the game out ahead of launch, there is currently a demo available on Steam, which according to the ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews, is setting MAETH’s shooter up for a positive launch.
