During the THQ Nordic Showcase 2026, several updates on the Gothic franchise were announced. This year, Alkima released Gothic 1 Remake, which received critical acclaim and sold over 500,000 units in its first week, with almost 78,000 concurrent players on Steam. It’s safe to say that many of the fans knew that this wasn’t the end.

Not only has Gothic been receiving constant patches featuring bug fixes and balancing on PC and consoles (PS5 and XBOX), but they’ve also announced that they are adding new features! These features should add further ways to play Gothic, increase its replay value, or entice new fans to the game!
Gothic 1 Upcoming New Features
These new features will include:
- Photo mode: sorely missed, especially given how beautiful the Valley of Mines became in this Remake.
- Marvin Mode: Gothic’s equivalent to a developer mode. It could allow you freedoms like spawning creatures in areas they weren’t before, items, easier teleporting around the map (or even make harpy transformations easier to fly around the Valley of Mines!) The ability to create and alter many aspects of the game could potentially create a cool new role-play adventure! The possibilities for this are extremely exciting, especially with the addition of…
- A Mod Kit: to YOU, the players, to get creative with the game and possibly share it with others!
- Alternative progression mechanics: This one didn’t have many details as to what it entails, but it could feature new ways to use our Levelling Points that we receive after each level up.
Would these new updates be possible on consoles?
Of course, it’s assumed that PC is their priority, especially when it comes to mod support. However, as Gothic 1 Remake is also available on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series, it’s possible, especially given the recent surge in mod support on consoles with games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Bethesda games. Even if it doesn’t arrive on consoles day 1, it would be a huge win for a smaller team like Alkima and console players if these updates, even just the ability to download and use mods created by others, were included.
Gothic 2 Remake – “This adventure is far from over…”
Lastly, the team at Alkima subtly addressed the elephant in the room. Will there be a Gothic 2 Remake, and when can we learn more about it?
No real news on this, except that they acknowledged their answer will take some time and that they hope to provide it during the THQ Nordic Showcase in 2027. Again, with the success of Gothic 1 Remake and the nagging comments from passionate fans, it would be ridiculous not to continue it, right? We’ve been disappointed before, but I will certainly be holding my breath!
