Planet Zoo 2 Goes Underwater With Aquatic Deep Dive

Frontier Developments has been making simulation/management games for as long as I can remember. Later this year they are releasing Planet Zoo 2, a sequel to their hit zoo management game and it’s one that is high on my most anticipated list. Frontier isn’t holding back either with expanding the game and today the studio released a behind the scenes look at something fans have asked them for for quite awhile, Aquatic life and aquariums.

As mentioned early in the behind the scenes look, fans have been asking for animals like turtles, fish and other marine mammals have been at the top of the list of fan requests. While Planet Zoo was an ambitious zoo management game on its own, there was definitely room for the addition of more animals and exhibits.

Now in Planet Zoo 2, Frontiers is looking to build upon the solid base they built with the original game and grow it into a perfect zoo making game, and that of course includes aquariums.

Caring for aquatic animals is a whole new ball game when it comes to animal care. Not only do they need to be fed, the water needs to be maintained. No longer can a zookeeper just go in and clean an exhibit. You need technology to keep the water clean and at the right levels. It’s a big task, but you as the zoo owner will have to be up for it.

It’s clear Frontier is taking things quite seriously with Planet Zoo 2 and it’s quite fascinating to see what all they are thinking about. They talk about things like how the fish sleep and “chill” out, how some interact in groups while others swim alone or with only a couple animals.

They also want to make sure things look and feel authentic in terms of how the animals look. Often times in games where there are aquatic animals they move in a weird way and will run into objects in the water. Frontier is working hard to make sure a turtle or shark moves in a way that makes you feel like you are truly seeing them.

The amount of time they have invested into the research to make sure they get everything right shows why they are arguably the best developer in the world when it comes to these types of games. On the surface it might seem overwhelming for players to see so many animals available, but I can’t help but be more excited for Planet Zoo 2 with each and every trailer and behind the scenes looks they do. I truly recommend reading the whole thing for yourself.

Zookeepers like myself won’t have to wait too much longer as Planet Zoo 2 releases October 23rd for Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and PC.
