Dust off your torches and brace your sanity, estate managers, Darkest Dungeon is getting a massive injection of new content out of absolutely nowhere!
In celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary, Red Hook Studios has announced The Fire’s Edge, the first new DLC for the gothic roguelike in over six years. The surprise expansion is set to drop on August 18, 2026, for PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, with an Xbox release following shortly after.
If you have been playing Darkest Dungeon II, some of these new features are going to look very familiar. Red Hook is retrofitting the sequel’s signature mechanics and heroes back into the original 2016 classic.
Here is what is coming to the Hamlet:
- Two New Heroes: Take control of The Runaway, a stealthy, tattered vagrant wielding a crude poker, and The Duelist, a severe, disciplined fighter with an ornate capelet and a bitter edge.
- The Burn Mechanic: The Runaway brings her signature fire damage over time straight into the original game’s combat system.
- Three New Districts: Expand your Hamlet with the Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp.
- Next-Gen Loot: Expect new Trinkets featuring fresh mechanics such as Trigger Uses, Quest Charges, and Progressive Trinkets.
- More Madness: New writing, town events, and tools for optional “derangements” are being forged for your upcoming exploits.
Red Hook Studios notes they have been working on The Fire’s Edge in tandem with providing ongoing support for both mainline games. More details are expected to step into the light as we get closer to the August launch date. Darkest Dungeon is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
