If you’re clinging on to your XBOX One or PlayStation 4 – and with the price of consoles these days, we wouldn’t blame you – unfortunately one of the best open worlds from last year will no longer be coming your way.
Developer Techland have announced that their 2025 title, Dying Light: The Beast will no longer arrive on last-generation hardware and will stick to being current-gen and PC only. In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the studio cited technical limitations to making the port run to their high standards, saying:
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Dying Light: The Beast will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide. As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create. This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience.
We know many of you were looking forward to playing on PS4 or Xbox One, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment this causes. Anyone who was expecting to play on either platform will be eligible for a refund.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.“
Though this is the end of the franchise on last-generation consoles, today’s news will likely surprise very few. There is no mention of the game coming to Switch 2 as it stands, however the original game did arrive on Switch 1.
Dying Light: The Beast is a strong entry into the parkour movement, zombie smashing franchise. In our review we said: “Dying Light: The Beast is a gritty, emotionally charged game that builds on the series’ strengths while introducing new, and fun layers of gameplay.”. Like the other two previous Dying Light titles, The Beast released a swathe of post-launch content. The Restored Land content was made available for free to all players earlier this year.
