While it has been a tumultuous period in the games industry for both workers and audiences, Summer Games Done Quick has once again proven that this medium is capable of wonderful things. The annual gaming marathon ended earlier today (July 12) with $2.4 million raised for Doctors Without Borders.
Summer Games Done Quick is a yearly event held in Minneapolis, Minnesota dedicated to highlighting the very best in the video game speedrunning community while raising money for Doctors Without Borders, a charity organization dedicated to providing humanitarian medical care to victims of conflicts across the world. During the event the charity shared a short documentary titled “Returning to Gaza”, highlighting its humanitarian work for young people in the region.
This year’s event ran for the week of July 5 – July 11 both in-person and live on YouTube and Twitch, and featured speedruns of games big and small, concluding with a 1 hour and 26 minute run of Gamer Social Club’s 2025 Game of the Year winner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The show concluded with $2,408,701 raised for the charity in total.
You can find archive of the runs on the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel, which includes a nail-biting Balatro run, a world-record Kirby Air Riders run, and a sub-1 hour run of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis played on a Guitar Hero guitar.
Games Done Quick will return later this year with various events including an edition during GamesCom in Germany, its women-led event Flame Fatales, and Black in a Flash. The next in-person event, Awesome Games Done Quick 2027, will kick off on January 3, while Summer Games Done Quick will return on June 20, 2027.
